FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Michael Ciliberti Home Network Security Checklist - Install a hardware router between your PC and high-speed modem. Most modems 'hide' your home network from the outside world while allowing you to continue to surf the Internet. - Install antivirus software on all computers and configure the program so it will automatically download virus definitions. As new viruses are found, definitions are created so the software knows what to look for. - Enable 'Windows Automatic Updates' to download and install Microsoft critical updates as they are released. - Install Spyware detection software (like SpyBot and AdAware) and periodically scan your computers for any malicious software. - If you have a wireless home network, configure 'MAC Address Filtering' which will only permit your computers to connect to the wireless access point. - Avoid peer-peer file sharing service like Kazaa to reduce your chance of virus or spyware infection. - Avoid clicking links embedded in unsolicited e-mail messages. These links are often part of sophisticated 'phishing' schemes designed to steal online user account information and passwords. - Be careful when clicking on links to online search results (e.g. Google and Yahoo!). Don't assume that all search results point to safe web sites. About INC
